After learning that Death Stranding hit No.2 on the UK charts, we find out that in Hideo Kojima’s home country of Japan that his new title topped the charts. This is the second week in a row that a PS4 exclusive has topped the charts in Japan after the launch of Persona 5 Royal last week.
According to Famitsu, Death Stranding debuted at nearly 185,909 units in its first week of sales from November 4, 2019, to November 10, 2019. Kojima’s last title Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain launched in Japan at 293,652 units on PlayStation 4 and 117,547 units on PlayStation 3 for a total of 411,199 units.
We also learned that this is the biggest IP launch on a home console this entire generation and that Death Stranding outsold other notable PS4 exclusives such as Bloodborne, Days Gone, and God of War in Japan during their launch week.
