Director of the upcoming Marvel Studios‘ movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Scott Derrickson is stepping down as the director. Variety got an official statement from Marvel Studios confirming the departure.
“Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ due to creative differences,” Marvel said in a statement to Variety. “We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”
Scott Derrickson was the director of the first Doctor Strange. While he won’t continue being the director of the sequel he will remain as an Executive Producer. He also said this was a mutual decision.
The film is set for release on May 7, 2021, with film production being this May. There aren’t any expecting delays with Derrickson stepping down. A replacement is underway at this time. The sequel will have Benedict Cumberbatch returning as his role as Doctor Strange. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch, is said to make an appearance in the film.
